The standard symbols: Chain, single, half treble, treble, the lot. Drawn the way published patterns draw them, so your chart needs no legend.
Rows or rounds: A grid for rows, rounds for anything circular. Symbols snap to it. Hold Shift when a stitch belongs between two.
Repeat around: Draw one shell and send it round the whole round. Beats placing it forty-eight times.
Layers: Keep rounds or motifs apart, so working on one leaves the rest alone.
PNG, SVG or paper: A picture for a pattern document, a vector that scales to anything, or a printed page to work from.

This is the diagram kind, not the grid kind. A colour chart uses squares and colour to make a picture. A symbol chart says which stitch and where, which is how doilies, motifs and anything round get written down. If you wanted squares, the colour chart maker is the other tool.

Can I chart something worked in the round?

Yes. Switch the grid to rounds, say how many stitches a round holds, and place symbols against it. Repeats go round in one go.

Which symbols does it use?

The standard set published patterns use. Anyone who reads charts can read yours.

Can I use the chart in a pattern I am writing?

Yes. PNG to drop into a document, or SVG to stay sharp at any size. The SVG has the artwork inlined, so the file works on its own.
